"The 2008s remind me a lot of the 2005s," Michael Browne told me. "In both vintages the wines are expansive, and they have similar energy levels." He added that he prefers 2008 "because of the added concentration due to the small berry and cluster size." He reiterated that the goal at Kosta-Browne is "to maintain a house style while respecting the vintages. Ideally we'll hit around 14.5% alcohol, with pHs around 3.65. We want the wines to be accessible but we don't want them to fall apart in a couple of years either. We've had an incredible amount of success-way, way beyond what we imagined-so we're very careful about messing with what got us here."
