Kimsey is one of the most exciting estates to come along in the last few years. Proprietors Bill and Nancy Kimsey have spared no expense in developing their property. Vineyard guru Ruben Solorzano takes care of the new, densely planted vineyard, while Matt Dees makes the wines. The first wines off this site already show promise as well as power. It will be interesting to see if the site can also deliver finesse. Time will tell.

These are the first releases from Kimsey, and they are impressive. Winemaker Matt Dees has turned out a set of gorgeous and hugely promising Rhône-inspired reds. Vineyard guru Ruben Solorzano planted the Ballard Canyon property in 2006. Given the age of these vines there is every reason to think there is plenty of future upside here. As good as the 2012s are, the 2013s may be even better. There is little doubt Kimsey is one of the most exciting new wineries in Santa Barbara County.
