This domaine (and expansive négociant operation) was the poster child for modern Rhône wines when they hit the scene in the late 1980s and on into the 2000s. With their flamboyant fruit, oak has been toned down and there are fewer rackings than in the past, so there's less introduction of oxygen, less need for sulfur additions and, as a result, greater freshness and detail to the wines these days. The fruit is still entirely destemmed to emphasize fruit, as Laure Colombo isn't fond of the often aggressive spice notes that whole clusters bring to the wines - "especially cinnamon," a spice that she admits to disliking, including in food.
