Hiedler was glowing in his assessment of '99, and the wines no less glowing. He harvested scarcely any fruit before November and the pinot blanc, chardonnay, and richest of the rieslings were touched by botrytis. Promising fruit from newly acquired sites signals more top-quality wines from Hiedler in the future. In addition, Hiedler has just purchased a high, steeply terraced but long-abandoned section of Steinhaus, a mica-schist heat trap between Schenkenbichl and Steinmassl, which he claims is the best riesling site in the town of Langenlois.
