Steve Leveque turned out a gorgeous set of wines at Hall. Over the last few years, Leveque has moved to gradually give the wines a bit more finesse while maintaining the trademark lushness that makes the best Hall wines so compelling. As good as these wines are, my sense is that there is still a lot of untapped potential for the future, and that is great to see. To be sure, a freakish year like 2015, with its severe drought and heat spikes, is especially hard to deal with for producers who tend to make rich wines, as conditions can easily push wines over the edge. Leveque and his team did a great job keeping those elements in check as much as possible.

Winemaker Steve Leveque and his team have done a terrific job with these new releases at Hall. As usual, the wines are rich, sumptuous and bold in style. Leveque draws fruit from a number of sources throughout the valley for this range. Hall fans will note the appearance of a new wine, a new wine from the estate's Sacrashe vineyard in Rutherford. Sacrashe has informed a number of Hall wines for many years, but 2013 is the first vineyard designate Cabernet off this unique site.
