In 2009, Kevin Judd left LVMH-owned Cloudy Bay after 25 years to set up his own label, Greywacke. It's now one of Marlborough's most respected producers, particularly in the white wine department. Unsurprising, given Judd’s background, Sauvignon Blanc is the main event. Of his two Sauvignons, his Wild Sauvignon provides the most intrigue for the high-involvement wine consumer. A funky style, it is wild fermented in barrel, which can take up to a year to complete, with a portion undergoing malolactic conversion. Ex-Spy Valley winemaker Richelle Tyney has joined as winemaker and is a welcome addition to the team.
