While most American consumers associate the Mosel with delicately sweet kabinetts and spätleses, just over two-thirds of Gerhard Grans's total production is actually dry. In particular, his Grosses Gewächs have gained in stature over the past few vintages. This year he made three. Although I gave all of them the same score, my slight preference falls to the Apotheke. My favorite riesling from this year's line-up, though, is the spätlese from the same site, at once crisp, clean and pure. Other wines tasted: 2011 Riesling Trocken Mineralschiefer.
