Each year, I do a "ten years after" tasting of the nearly 50 top wines from my old guide to see which of the dry rieslings have matured gracefully. Since his death in 2004, the winner is awarded the Bernhard Breuer Memorial Trophy. Three years ago the prize went to his own estate for its 1997 Schlossberg. Two years ago, the 1998 Nonnenberg was among the five finalists. This year the 2000 Berg Rottland took the trophy. No other estate in Germany has been nearly as consistent over the years, and the 2009 Berg Schlossberg, which is among the finest dry rieslings of the current vintage, looks to be another long-distance runner. Also recommended: 2009 Riesling Sauvage (85), 2009 Riesling Rudesheim Estate (87), 2009 Riesling Rauenthal Estate (87), 2009 Riesling Terra Montosa (89), 2009 Rudesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Trocken (91), 2009 Rudesheimer Berg Rottland Riesling Trocken (92), 2009 Riesling Charm (85), 2009 Riesling Auslese (90).
