The unexpected death of Bernhard Breuer in May 2004 sent shock waves rippling through the German wine scene. His life's work is now being carried on by his brother Heinrich and their long-time winemaker Hermann Schmoranz, who have turned out a vintage of which Bernhard himself would also have been proud. As always, the dry rieslings here are very closed in their youth, but I know from experience that they age admirably.Interestingly, though, the number of auslese bottlings, which were hardly Bernhard's cup of tea, is on the rise here, and all are quite good.(Classical Wines, Seattle, WA) Also recommended: 2004 Riesling Sauvage (85), 2004 Riesling Charm (86), 2004 Riesling Rauenthal Estate (86), 2004 Riesling Rudesheim Estate (86), 2004 Rudesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling (88), 2004 Rudesheimer Berg Rottland Riesling (88).
