Estate Director Frédéric Faye turned out one of the most brilliant wines of his career in 2023. The team performed two passes in the vineyard, one to lower production and a second to help with selection. The Merlot harvest ran from September 9 to 16, after which Faye waited 12 days before bringing in the Cabernets. Everything about the 2023 speaks to balance and pedigree. What a wine!

I cannot remember seeing Frédéric Faye without a smile, and even in the midst of mildew pressure, I am sure he was beaming. “We had less rain here. We had more mildew pressure in 2018 than in 2023. We had the luxury of having two green harvests over all the plots. At the end of August, we started tasting the Merlot, and they seemed ready, so why wait? We started on September 6 and continued picking the Merlot on the juicy side, waiting 12 days before starting the Cabernet. The skin was like chewing gum, and we needed to wait. The Cabernet Sauvignon has small berries, so there is less in the blend. I found that one-third was too much.”
