Drought stress in '95 resulted in low yields of 33 hectoliters per hectare, according to Thierry Manoncourt. The crop was harvested unusually quickly, with twice the usual number of pickers—the merlot a bit late and the cabernet sauvignon early. Grape sugars were healthy, and the wine is a roughly equal blend of merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. I was surprised to learn that much of the malolactic fermentation in '95 was done in barriques.
