The transformation at Le Pupille over the last few years has been nothing short of remarkable. After a brief dip in quality, winemaker Luca D'Attoma has this reference point estate poised to make some of its best wines yet. With the 2013 vintage, proprietor Elisabetta Geppetti and D'Attoma have introduced casks and barrels with wider staves, both of which help wines mature at a more gradual pace. The 2012s and 2013s I tasted were all impressive. Naturally the 2012s show the power of the vintage, while the 2013s are more restrained. Either way, it's great to see Le Pupille back on track.

Le Pupille fans will be delighted to learn that things are back on track after a year or two of transition. Current oenologist Luca D'Attoma has done a terrific job in bringing these wines back to their customary level of quality. That process will take at least a few years, given the naturally long time nature demands, but it's great to see Le Pupille moving in a positive direction.
