This is an intriguing set of wines from Etude. I found the Santa Barbara Pinots more expressive than the Pinots made from Etude's own estate vineyards in Carneros. I suppose that is not too surprising given that winemaker Jon Priest has considerable experience in Santa Barbara, but it is worth noting. The Carneros Pinots all show more of the ill effects of the drought year in their slightly roasted flavors and unpolished tannins, along with more oak influence, none of which I find in the Santa Barbara wines. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignons in this range are also attractive.
