Brothers Cameron and Alistair Ashmead, who are in their early 40s, took charge of their family's 72-acre property in 1997 following the untimely death of their father Neil, who established the winery with his wife Lorraine in 1982. The crown jewel of the property is the Command block, which was first planted in 1894 and has consistently produced one of Australia's finest and most iconic and ageworthy red wines for the last two decades. The rest of the Elderton lineup is solid as well and at the entry level quality is outstanding for the prices asked.
