I was not quite as smitten with Lalou Bize-Leroy's set of 2003s as I expected to be, but perhaps I'm quibbling. There's no arguing with the extraordinary richness and ripeness of the majority of these wines, and they are true to the vintage. While a few of them showed the roasted side of 2003 and seemed quite low in acidity, even these cuvees may well enjoy a good long life in bottle on sheer extract and concentration.Lalou Bize acidified several wines but not all of them, and she carried out her normal vinifications."I don't understand why others did less extraction in 2003," she told me.The wines were bottled at the end of July, making them the first in bottle of all the 2003s I tasted in November.
