Winemaker Jason Gorski told me that “the heat in 2015 was ridiculous” and that in recent years he has preferred the even-numbered vintages.” In 2015, he added, “the earliness of the harvest freaked everyone out. The sugars were not necessarily ahead of flavors but we eliminated some raisins and lost about 6% of the crop." In 2016, in contrast, the berries were larger and the challenge, according to Gorski, was to get yields down in order to ensure concentration. “But the season was warm enough that everything got ripe. The wines will probably be for relatively early drinking but they have decent acidity for a warmer vintage.” Executive winemaker Chris Upchurch described these two vintage succinctly: “Two thousand fifteen is a bad-ass vintage, while 2016 is more even.”

As in recent years, DeLille presented a splendid set of new bottlings in July.
