This producer’s wines will now all be bottled under the DeLille Cellars monicker, as Doyenne, which was previously used for their wines from Rhone varieties, will disappear (actually, it will still be used for the Cabernet-Syrah blend that was formerly called Aix). I’m all for that decision as I always found the two line-ups unnecessarily confusing. Happily, in recent years DeLille’s broad line-up of wines has been among the most exciting in Washington State.

DeLille's white wines face much less competition than do their reds within the state, and my early look at the 2016s gave me a good early view of this vintage. “The summer of '16 wasn’t scorching like 2015,” said executive winemaker Chris Upchurch. “It was a ‘warm normal’ year in which the early varieties did well and then things slowed down nicely for the late ones.”

Very few Washington wineries can match DeLille for the way their wines combine sheer fruit intensity and structure. The current releases are wonderfully pliant and accessible, even if the best of them will last splendidly.
