Consistency is the name of the game at Dehlinger. I was really impressed with the wines I tasted with Eva Dehlinger, not just in terms of quality, but how Dehlinger and her team navigated the drastically different 2021 and 2022 vintages. The second half of the 2021s capture all the promise of the year. My first tastings of the 2022s point to another strong vintage. Harvest took place over three weeks, from late August to mid-September. The Pinots are marked by a very appealing mix of Russian River exuberance and energy.

"We did not advance our picking in 2020, but we did back off stems," Eva Dehlinger explained. "Ultimately, we were selective in what we chose to bottle. For example, there is no High Plains Pinot in 2020." In tasting, the 2020s at Dehlinger appear to be marked by heat and drought more than anything else. The wines are a bit dark and heavy relative to the norm here. Even so, the wines are nicely balanced given the limits of what was possible.
