Maya and Naoko Dalle Valle describe 2018 as a year with even, stable weather and no shocks. Two thousand nineteen, on the other hand, saw poor weather during flowering, which lowered yields, and warmer weather overall. Interestingly, harvest dates were about the same. In tasting, the 2018s are gorgeous, super-refined wines that come across as less extracted than in the past. The 2019s, which I tasted from separate components, seem to have a bit more freshness and precision, but we will see when the wines are finished. Dalla Valle fans will also want to check out DVO, Dalla Valle’s new joint venture with Tenuta dell’Ornellaia.
