Overall, this is a solid set of wines from Cliff Lede and his team led by winemaker Chris Tynan and viticulturist Remi Cohen. The 2012s are racy and opulent, very much in the Lede style. I noticed that two of the wines had picked up a slightly astringent note that was not present when I tasted the wines in barrel. My sense is that some of these wines might be a bit too forced. On the other hand, Lede's tasting room parking lot is always packed, so these wines appear to be finding a big audience. Lede has access to great fruit sources, including his own and those of his neighbor, David Abreu, so I have to think there is ample room for these wines to be even better. I also tasted a handful of 2013 barrel samples that showed the pure richness and power of the year.

Cliff Lede is going to be an interesting property to watch over the coming years. Winemaker Kale Anderson left for Pahlmeyer and was replaced by Chris Tynan, formerly Assistant Winemaker at Colgin, who works closely with viticulturist Remi Cohen. Lede has moved all winemaking in house, which also means Philippe Melka is no longer working on the wines. Some of the changes the new team plans to implement are slightly earlier harvest dates and a reduction of barrel fermentations.
