This is a stellar set of wines from Alexandre Chartogne, made notable mostly by the vintages at play – 2017 and 2016 – both of which were quite challenging. Most of the wines in the range are single-parcel bottlings, fermented and aged in barrel, in a style that, for lack of a better word, is ‘Burgundian’ in inspiration. The combination of vinous, textural intensity and vibrancy conferred by low dosage, makes for compelling, often thrilling, Champagnes. My only question mark with this range is the Cuvée Ste.-Anne, which shows signs of volatile acidity. This is the first vintage of that wine done entirely in barrel, so some fine tuning is likely required
