Are the 2010 Brunellos really all they are cracked up to be? After months of seeing and hearing all the hype Vinous readers wanted to see (and taste) for themselves. This recent dinner at Lincoln Ristorante gave attendees an early look at a dozen of the vintage’s best known and most highly regarded wines.

Cerbaiona. One word says it all. For the last four decades, Diego and Nora Molinari have produced some of the most compelling wines in Montalcino. The 2010 is quite possibly their greatest and most profound effort yet. Sadly, the Molinaris have had more than their share of health issues over the last few years, including Diego Molinari's recent fall and broken femur. Rumors have circulated for years about a possible sale. Logic says it is only a matter of time before that happens. I have treasured every moment I have spent at Cerbaiona tasting cask by cask with Diego and Nora Molinari throughout the years, but I am not sure how many more vintages of this level will emerge from this tiny, jewel of an estate. For now, let us celebrate the 2010, an unqualified success and the clear wine of the vintage thus far. Note: The estate's other wines had not been bottled at the time of my visit, so I was not able to taste them, but will do so as soon as is practical.
