2020 Cabernet Sauvignon The Widowmaker

Cayuse Vineyards’ 2020 Bordeaux wines are just as compelling as the Rhônes reviewed earlier this year. Cayuse makes a strong case for the vintage through a tight selection of fruit that made it into their final blends. I find the same depth and complexity that I typically associate with this superb collection, along with a clear definition of terroir yet softer textures and chalky tannins that allow for more immediate pleasure. Like most wines in this vintage, the 2020s will enjoy a compact drinking window and a slightly shorter life than wines from the more powerful years. However, there’s also a good chance that the 2020s will surprise us down the road.
