I was quite impressed with the wines I tasted from Brolio this year. For one thing, the intense, dark color of some previous years was nowhere to be found. The wines are more varietally expressive than they have been in some time - which is clearly great to see - yet retain a slightly modernist leaning in their expression of fruit. More importantly, it will be interesting to see how things develop here in coming years. Brolio is one of the most important names in Chianti Classico because of the history and culture it represents. A few years ago, I tasted a bottle of the estate's 1929 (that is not a typo) that was still gorgeous. If Brolio can continue to raise the level of their game all of Chianti Classico will benefit. Also tasted: 2014 Brolio Bianco.
