Greg Brewer and Steve Clifton told me that they consider 2008 "an ideal vintage for our style: that is, fragrant, spicy and bright." I found the 2008s, reds as well as whites, to be highly perfumed and open for business, but with ample concentration for aging. All whole clusters are used for the pinots, and Brewer and Clifton are moving closer to using all neutral oak for their wines "to really showcase the character of the SantaRitaHills and each site." A new addition to their portfolio is a chardonnay from the 3-D vineyard, near Ampelos, just west of Buellton (there will also be a pinot noir from this vineyard in 2009), which the Brewer-Clifton team planted and manages.
