Vega Sicilia’s “other” bodega in Ribera del Duero issues a more modern take on the DO as the wine (a single bottling is produced) is more forward, even extroverted, and weightier than its highly esteemed sibling. So, this is not Vega Sicilia Lite, by any stretch, and the wine deserves to be considered and respected on its own merit as an example of the DO’s top rank. The wine is aged for 12 months prior to bottling in 80% new oak (95% of it French and 5% American), so for far less time compared to the practice at Vega Sicilia.
