Bradley Brown draws across a number of sites in the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Gabilan Mountains to the south for a wide range of wines that encompass Rhône, Burgundy and Bordeaux varieties. A preference for picking on the earlier side yields perfumed, savory wines with a good bit of energy that often need a few years in bottle to be at their very best. Readers will find plenty of delicious, compelling wines here. I did find some of the 2017 Pinots to be more challenging, but that is in keeping with the style of the year more broadly.

This is a strong set of wines from Big Basin and proprietor Bradley Brown. In particular, the 2015 Pinots are terrific, not to mention a step up from the 2014s. A number of the Syrahs are equally compelling. As is the case in the Santa Cruz Mountains and neighborng appellations, Big Basin suffered from punishing yields that lowered production by 50% or more across the board.
