Avignonesi is one of the reference-points in Montepulciano. Judging by these wines, it looks like overall quality is picking back up, which is great to see. One development is the introduction of mini 187-ml bottles for the two Vin Santos. Given how rich those wines are, 187-ml bottles are probably not a bad thing, I found both 2001 Vin Santos a bit forward, even for fifteen year old wines. Obtaining richness has never been an issue here, but at some point, one has to wonder if all of that intensity is too much of a good thing.
