Ettore and Alberto Falvo, the owners of this house (it was Ettore Falvo's former wife, Adriana Avignonesi, from an old Montepulciano family, who gave her name to the wines) also have substantial vineyard holdings just outside the zone, in the neighboring township of Cortona. Here they planted French varieties and have, for years, made a complete-perhaps exaggeratedly so-line of non-traditional wines. There has recently been some consolidation: the chardonnay and sauvignon have become a single white wine, the pinot noir has been abolished, and the cabernet in Grifi is now used together with the merlot to make a Bordeaux blend.
