Long the Sardinia’s most visible and best known producer, Argiolas is by no means small. Production of roughly 2.2 million bottles a year from 230 hectares of vineyards attest to this family-run enterprise’s considerable size. The estate is most famous for its Turriga, an especially ageworthy mostly Cannonau red (see the vertical tasting report on Turriga in Vinous 2017) but it invests heavily in field and cellar research, such that new wines are offered frequently. Two new Carignano wines are the latest in a lineup of impressive newcomers to the Argiolas portfolio. Other very noteworthy wines that have seen the light of day here recently include those of the highly successful Iselis line, the Nasco and the Monica.
