Eva Clüsserath is sure that her vines spent some time malingering – if not outright shut down – in the course of 2018’s hot, dry midsummer, and she is also confident that this had no adverse effect; indeed, if anything, it slowed an accumulation of grape sugar that compelled the earliest harvest in her family’s history. Commencing on September 20, the team here finished up at the end of the first week of October. Clüsserath elected not to bottle any of her 2018s before the end of July 2019, one result of which was that when I tasted with her in mid-September 2019, it was also the first time she had tasted her full lineup in finished condition. (For a bit of background on Eva Clüsserath and her estate, consult especially the introduction to my account of her 2014s.)
