Whether it is the Sauvignon Blanc planted in their home vineyard, the rugged Rancho Chimiles that informs Cerro Sur, or the parcels they pull fruit from elsewhere in Napa Valley, winemaker Andy Erickson and viticulturist Annie Favia are driven by a deeply held passion for the land. As for the wines, well, they are superb. I had a chance to taste a few older wines during a recent visit, all of which have held up beautifully. Readers who haven's discovered Favia yet owe it to themselves to do so. These are gorgeous wines endowed with fabulous class.

Viticulturist Annie Favia and her husband, winemaker Andy Erickson, craft these wines from a handful of sites throughout Napa Valley. Favia and Erickson exude tremendous passion and palpable enthusiasm, both of which were on full display when I tasted with them last year, but qualities that were even more evident during the afternoon I spent touring vineyards with Andy Erickson just as the 2012 harvest was about to get started. Favia and Erickson are among the greatest proponents of Cabernet Franc in Napa Valley, and their wines, Cerro Sur in particular, show the extraordinary complexity the grape is capable of.
