I found much to like in these new and upcoming releases from Vérité. The 2015s, which were still in tank at the time of my visit, were perhaps a touch less expressive than they were last year, probably a result of the period in which I caught them. The 2016s, on the other hand, were very giving. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, respectively, play the leading role in La Muse, La Joie and Le Désir. In 2015, the blends all include greater percentages of complementary varieties, most likely the result of having to fine tune the wines in response to the freakish growing season, something that was much less needed in 2016.

Pierre Seillan's 2014s are just as brilliant from bottle as they were from barrel. Specifically, the 2014s are made in a style that introduces a bit more freshness and verve to the Vérité that in the past was built on an extreme emphasis on concentration. There is still tremendous power to these wines, but they are more complete than ever.
