"It was a tough year in the vineyard," Stefano Conterno explained. "Rain was a constant, and that is especially hard on organic estates like ours. Many buds never fertilized because of the stress the plants suffered in 2017, so our yields were down. The wines saw 35-40 days on the skins, but without submerged cap maceration. Malos were all done in steel, and the wines were all racked into cask before the end of the year." As I have stated before, Diego Conterno is one of Piedmont's most exciting emerging estates. The Barolo del Comune di Monforte d'Alba is a great place to start exploring these wines.
