Mike and Claire Allen founded Huia in 1996 and recently sold the winery to Tom Pegler. Organically certified and practicing biodynamics, the wines are sensitively made. In 2023, that shows through in its subtle yet succulent Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. Textured and harmonious, these restrained whites are the winery’s calling card.

Organically certified and practicing biodynamics, Mike and Claire Allen founded Huia in 1996 and have recently sold the winery, although Claire remains the winemaker. The wines are sensitively made, including their atypical (in a positive way) Sauvignon Blanc and one of New Zealand’s more commendable traditional method sparkling wines. Claire spent time training at Taittinger, which may be a contributing factor… All wines are unfined and thus vegan.
