2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Village

This domaine has cropped up in my annual Burgfest tastings in recent years and, though I did not have an opportunity to visit winemaker Christophe Drag, I did taste samples in the UK. Drag runs the 10-hectare domaine together with his wife Christine. Since 1994 they have veered away from using chemicals in the vineyard. Ageing is around 18 months with approximately 20% new wood. I tasted three of their seven Premier Crus in Nuits Saint-Georges and found them to be very promising. Whilst they do not quite convey the flamboyance and depth of say, Domaine Robert Chevillon, I found them elegant and well proportioned, revealing silky texture and freshness on the finish. I feel that they could step up another level in years to come, so watch this space.
