Founded in 1890, Medici Ermete owns four different estates (Tenuta Rampata, 35 hectares; Gaida, 15 hectares; Quercioli, 13 hectares; Favorita 12 hectares;) for a total of 75 hectares and an annual production of roughly 800,000 bottles a year. Originally the Medici Ermete family were osteria owners (they owned four different ones) where the local demand for wine was such that Remigio Medici (great-grandfather of the current owner) decided to start up a small winery. His son, Ermete, decided to increase the size of the estate further, but unfortunately died young. His son, Giorgio Medici, father of current owner Alberto Medici, decided to honor Ermete by adding his name to the winery’s, and so Medici Ermete was born. Medici Ermete was the first Lambrusco estate to have a dry estate-bottled Lambrusco wine imported into the USA (the second estate bottled Lambrusco wine was imported into the USA only seven years after theirs, according to Medici.)
