Lignier started harvesting on August 28, bringing in fruit with potential alcohol of around 13% for the village wines and as high as 13.5% to 13.8% for the grand crus.Lignier, who acidified for the fermentations, describes the wines as round and supple, although he later compared the 2003s to the '76s, another hot-year vintage. But he noted that the '76s were more tannic and that the earlier harvest did not begin until September 12.The malos ended by March, but no wines had been racked yet in early November.

I tasted this year with Romain Lignier's father Hubert, as Romain was recovering from a serious operation in September.Hubert described 2002 as an average-size crop from a normal year. We had rain but not a huge amount," he noted. And acidity levels were correct."Although the 2001s here are less fleshy, Lignier has a fondness for the estate's top cuvees from the earlier vintage.(Rosenthal Wine Merchant, Shekomeko NY
