Founded in 1974, Adanti is one of Montefalco’s oldest estates; it is also one of its most underrated. In fact, Adanti’s remarkably classic, well balanced and eminently drinkable Sagrantino wines are the region’s best in many vintages -- but then, all of the estate’s wines are about grace and refinement, rather than sheer force and power. They are also some of the most mineral, if not the most mineral, reds produced in the Montefalco area. Adanti’s 30 hectares of vineyards are located near Bevagna (where the winery building is located), Arquata and Colcimino. The Arquata area is one I find most interesting as a source of less than brutal Sagrantinos. These classic wines are very traditionally made, with long macerations and fermentations; large oak casks are used for aging.
