I like this estate’s approach to winemaking. Everything is very honest, simple and old-fashioned in a positive sense. There is no air-conditioning, no heating and little that hints of modern winemaking technology. That is the way Georg and his son Axel Stiegelmar want it. No overripeness, no overextracted tannins and no noticeable wood. They do not try to make flashy wines, but talk more about drinkability. Sometimes the wines lack emotion, but when all of the pieces fit, these can be some of the most pleasurable bottles you can open.
