Few consumers, even in Germany, have heard of Ilbesheim at the southern end of the Pfalz not far from the Alsatian border.Nor is the Kalmit site yet particularly well-known.That may soon change.Over the past few vintages, Boris Kranz has continued to ascend through the ranks:he was recently admitted to the VDP and has now bottled a range of 2011s that includes a pinot blanc that was among the best dry wines of the vintage in all of Germany.Any importer looking for a German estate with a decidedly southern accent should knock at this door. Also recommended:2011 Silvaner Trocken (85), 2011 Ilbesheimer Silvaner Trocken vom Ton (89), 2011 Ilbesheimer Weissburgunder Trocken (85), 2011 Ilbesheimer Weissburgunder Trocken vom Landschneckenkalk (91), 2011 Gocklinger Riesling Trocken (86), 2011 Ilbesheimer Riesling Trocken (88), 2011 Ilbesheimer Riesling Trocken vom Landschneckenkalk (91), 2011 Riesling Feinherb (86), 2011 Rieslaner Auslese (88), 2010 Ilbesheimer Spatburgunder Trocken (85), 2010 Ilbesheimer Spatburgunder Trocken vom Landschneckenkalk (87).Other wines tasted:2011 Weissburgunder Trocken, 2011 Sauvignon Blanc, 2011 Riesling Trocken.
