These three 2017 Barolos from Roberto Voerzio are disappointing. I say that having bought and drunk these wines back to the early days, in the mid-1980s, when Voerzio was just getting started. A recent bottle of the 2004 Cerequio was epic. These three Barolos are far, far off that level. I found the 2017s light in color, depth and structure - even within the context of the year - with washed-out flavors and limited site expression. The wines faded rather quickly over the 36 hours, or so I followed the open bottles. Hopefully, these wines represent a temporary setback rather than a new and lower overall quality level at the estate.
