Sella makes a number of terrific wines. The 2011 Bramaterra and Lessona are both excellent choices for current drinking, as the warm vintage softened some of the contours in those wines while also giving them a good bit of flesh. The flagship Lessonas, the 2009 San Sebastiano allo Zoppo and Omaggio a Quintino Sella, are both solid, but they are usually more complex and multi-dimensional. Once again, most of that is probably attributable to vintage character.

The Sella family traces their history in wine all the way back to the 1700s, which is remarkable in today's fast-paced world. The Sellas own properties across several appellations centered around Lessona and Bramaterra. At their best, the wines are translucent and super-expressive. The winemaking style is best described as enlightened traditional. Like so many of their peers, the Sellas release their top wines with a few years in bottle, which means they are ready to drink when they arrive in the market. The best wines also have an uncanny ability to age. I can't recommend the Sella wines highly enough.
