Arnoux et Fils, established in 1717, now encompasses 40 hectares of vines scattered throughout the region, but Vacqueyras is its home base, literally next door to the village’s ancient and iconic church. The Gigondas here are solid in quality, usually moderately tannic and sometimes very good, but the bywords are consistency and fruit-driven accessibility. While they can age well, I generally find that they drink best on the young side, especially from warm vintages such as the recent years the region has been experiencing. Arnoux et Fils has long been quite a popular domaine in local wine shops and restaurants. Moreover, their own store in the middle of Vacqueyras, does pretty serious business, especially during the summer.
