There are a lot of highlights among these new releases from Wind Gap. As is often the case, I find the appellation level wines, the Pinot and Syrah in particular, quite distinctive. In 2016, Pax Mahle was especially selective. He did not bottle his Sonoma Coast or Woodruff Chardonnays, and only made one vineyard designate Pinot. Readers will find a ton to admire in the 2016 Syrahs, all of which are exceptionally beautiful and also super-expressive of site. At this level, that is what wine should be all about.
