I tasted the Kistler 2002s in early March with Steve Kistler's business partner Mark Bixler, who told me that the 2002 harvest lasted from September 5 through 24, with much of the fruit being picked at the beginning of that period."There were not big regional differences in quality in 2002," Bixler reported. This year I was able to taste two pinot noir offerings, and the Cuvee Catherine was among the best Kistler pinots I've tasted to date.Bixler noted that 70% of Kistler's wine now comes from their own vineyards, and that grapes Kistler purchases are bought by the acre, rather than by the ton.
