Longtime winemaker Jim Duane hit it out of the park with his 2021 reds. Yields are down a punishing estate at this hillside property in Conn Valley. As a consolation, though, the wines are insanely great. Seavey’s Merlot has long been the hidden gem in this range. It is once again terrific in 2021. As for the Cabernets, well, they are even better. Rich and structured, with tremendous textural intensity, the three Cabernets are simply magnificent. I was completely blown away by the William & Mary Founders' Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. It is the single greatest wine I have tasted here. Unfortunately, there are only two barrels to go around.
