Young and talented Maria Vittoria Maculan, daughter of Fausto and the estate’s current winemaker, has always loved the local and rare Vespaiola variety, known for easy-going, fresh, delicately aromatic white wines. However, she has always believed the grape to be capable of delivering much more, and this year has finally released a new wine made from Vespaiola that is meant to highlight the variety’s fine wine potential. The new Breganze Vespaiola Valvolpara is made from slightly late-harvested Vesapiola grapes that are gently pressed and stainless steel fermented and aged. It is a much deeper, richer and flavorful rendition of Vespaiola, that will likely be able to live for at least four to five years after the vintage. The name of the wine refers to the Val Volpara, or the “valley of the foxes”, as there are many of those intelligent, beautiful four-legged creatures living in the area.
