Luc Morlet describes the 2010 pinot noirs as more his style than the '09s, which he described as a bit flamboyant, and sometimes over the top. "The 2010s are more like Burgundies," he said, adding that he's not after "simple estery fruits." In fact, his wines can be remarkably glyceral in texture but with very low levels of residual sugar, and they tend to show more soil and mineral character than easy primary fruits. Morlet is a rare winemaker who displays great talent for Bordeaux and Burgundy varieties, whites as well as reds, but then he had time to hone his style of winemaking during his stint at Peter Michael, where he still consults.
