These are some of the best wines I have ever tasted from Travaglini. That’s significant not just for the winery, but also for the region. Travaglini is by far the most important and visible estate in Alto Piemonte. Travaglini’s production accounts for 50% of the volume of the entire Gattinara appellation. That means visitors traveling throughout the region are more likely to encounter a Travaglini Gattinara in shops or restaurant lists than any other wine. The style remains rigorously classic. Perhaps the 2018 and 2019 vintages have helped elevate these wines. Time will tell. Hopefully, these new releases are a sign of a newfound level of quality. That would be terrific news for a region that desperately needs more benchmark producers.
